SCORE mentors, Martin Stone and Michael Sedloff will present the essential techniques necessary for establishing and managing a successful business. SCORE's mission is to promote the success of small business in both San Diego and Imperial Counties. 
San Diego SCORE is part of a national association which serves as a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Michael Sedloff:
Michael earned a master's degree from the University of Michigan in Health Systems Planning and worked in the health management field until 1980. In 1981 he took over management of a mortgage brokerage firm. In 1985 he founded Southland Equities Mortgage which was acquired by Wells Fargo Bank in 2008. During his storied career in mortgage finance he was honored as California Mortgage Broker of the Year. In this industry his areas of responsibility included management, operations, warehouse lending, office leasing, regulatory compliance, customer service, sales and brand development. Since joining SCORE in 2018 he has been involved in mentoring business owners on various topics which include real estate, business planning, mortgage, sales, home health facility management, finance and operations. He currently presents a monthly workshop on business finance and he is a member of the SCORE Board of Directors.

Martin Stone:
Martin earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, and then worked for 15 years at Hewlett-Packard in Rancho Bernardo. He held both engineering and management positions in both Manufacturing and Product Development. He left HP in 1988 to join a small start-up company now located in Carlsbad - Asymtek - as Director of Operations. His areas of responsibility included most aspects of the business, including manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, technical customer support, and human resources. In 1996, Asymtek was purchased by Nordson Corporation, and he stayed on until he retired in December, 2017, as VP Operations. He helped grow the company from about 15 people in 1988 to over 450 when he retired. His key skillset includes Lean Enterprise tools, process improvement, project management, ERP system implementation, all levels of supervision and management, and customer service. He has been working with SCORE since May, 2018, and became a certified mentor in January, 2019.

She's the author of Follow Up Savvy and Follow Up Sales Strategies.  Wanda had a 25 year corporate career where she held the position of Senior Vice President for 15 years.  She has a sales background and worked with sales teams throughout her corporate career.  She gained extensive training on business development, maintaining client relationships and customer service.  She has a strong skill set for developing systems and applied this skill to the follow up process.  What she teaches is tried, tested and proven.  After leaving the corporate world to pursue her own business ventures, Wanda founded her business, Follow Up Sales Strategies. She is an expert in helping entrepreneurs, business owners and sales professionals improve sales performance, increase pipelines and client retention and become more referable by developing strong follow up skills.

The Dos and Dont's of HR and how you can apply them to your business!

Marlene's love for Human Resources and working with small companies and start-ups to establish and build their people initiatives was the impetus in establishing SDHR Consortium, a Human Resources Consulting firm. Over the past 30 years she has gone from being a Personnel Administrator to a Director of International Human Resources for a company that provides web-based security and content management and has helped small companies become large players in their industries. As a Senior Human Resources Consultant she has the opportunity to help guide companies with their people planning to secure its place as a leader in the industries they serve.

Marlene has a degree in Art & Interior Design from the Wilsey Institute in New York; a Certificate in Human Resources Management from San Diego State and is certified as an SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), SCP (Senior Certified Professional through SHRM), and a Peer Counselor.
